OBITUARIES

William Donohue

William E. Donohue, a former resident of Scarsdale, died peacefully at Greenwich Hospital on October 21, 2018. He was 95.

He was born on July 5, 1923 in New York City. After graduating from Fordham Prep in 1941, he went on to receive degrees from Fordham University and Columbia Business School.

During World War II, Mr. Donohue served for two years in the United States Army in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge.

After retiring as a financial officer of the New York Shipping Association in 1995, Mr. Donohue and his wife moved to Spring Lake, N.J., and also maintained a residence in Rye.

He enjoyed sports, especially golf, and was a NY Giants season ticketholder since 1953.

“Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family,” said his wife Eileen. “And he was the first to console anyone in need.”

In addition to his wife, Eileen Daly Donohue, he is survived by his children, Clare Coyne and her husband Michael of Fairfield, Conn.; Nancy Brady and her husband Thomas of Scarsdale; William Donohue and his wife Joan of Garden City, N.Y., as well as eight grandchildren, Annemarie, William and Matthew Donohue; Thomas, Jack, and George Brady; and Stephen and Theresa Coyne.
