New York State released 2015 test score results, based on the Common Core Curriculum on August 12. Unadjusted English Language Arts (ELA) and Math test results for the Rye City School District showed that 61.5 and 71.3% of students scored proficient or above in ELA and Math, respectively. Both ELA and Math results were slightly higher than in 2014’s adjusted results, 61 and 69%.

While the State described overall 2015 results as demonstrating “incremental progress” in ELA and Math,” the actual results were a flat 31.3% proficiency in ELA and a small increase in Math in 2015 to 38.1% vs. 36.2% in 2014. This year, 20% of eligible students opted-out of the tests. In Rye, that rate was 7 to 8%.

In Rye Neck, overall 2015 test results were 57.8% proficiency in ELA and 70.0% in Math vs. 59.0% and 63.0% in 2014.

Across all school districts in Westchester, 2015 proficiency rates were 39.4% ­­in ELA and 46.6% in Math.

Dr. Betty Ann Wyks, Rye’s Assistant Superintendant for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment said, “We are very pleased with the Common Core curriculum implementation thus far. The testing data we have received over the past three years has helped the District gather additive information about what we are doing well, and where we might make improvements.”

The Rye School District test results for individual students will be mailed home to parents on September 17.
