A Big Green Holiday Hit

The Ceres Garden Club reports that their holiday sale, held December 3, was the most successful to date. The Club thanks all the people who purchased wreaths, greenery arrangements, and baked goods. The merchants of Rye were especially helpful this year in placing a large number of pre-orders for the decorated wreaths.

Fundraising events like the Holiday Sale have enabled the Club to plant and donate the hanging baskets on Purchase Street for more than 35 years. This past summer red, pink, and white geraniums contributed color and charm to the busy shopping district.

Membership in Ceres Garden Club is open to all — men or women — who enjoy gardening and floral arranging and have an interest in the natural environment. The Club meets once a month at the Rye Nature Center for educational programs, flower shows, and work on civic projects like the hanging baskets.  For information on joining, email President Nancy Somma at nmsomma@optonline.net. n— Photo by Anne McCormick
