Rye has long been home to esteemed scientists, notably archaeologist Junius Bird, who became a curator of the American Museum of Natural History. But one of the greatest discoveries in Rye in recent years was made by 4-year-old Ethan Burke last month.
On July 28, the Cope Circle youngster was walking in his neighborhood, with his grandparents who were visiting from Highland Park, when he spotted an enormous mushroom. When they went back two days later, with Ethan’s 3-year-old brother Nate — and a measuring tape — they were amazed to see it had grown even bigger. Circumference: 4 feet, 1 inch!
Is the mushroom evidence of alien activity? Will property values in that neighborhood mushroom accordingly?
Stay tuned!
