A Garnet’s Freedom Ride
Peter Sterling, Rye High School class of 1958, gave Francesca Miller’s eighth-grade history class a first-hand lesson in our country’s Civil Rights movement. He captivated Rye Middle School students with stories of his experiences in the Freedom Rides and his subsequent arrest in Jackson, Mississippi.
The students asked very thoughtful questions during the Q & A format and Sterling was moved to tears when describing the tumultuous time and events.
