A Salute to Our Environmental Caretakers

Federated Conservationists of Westchester County is celebrating 50 years of protecting the environment and working to make it more sustainable.

Federated Conservationists of Westchester County is celebrating 50 years of protecting the environment and working to make it more sustainable. The nonprofit coalition will honor past and present leaders at its annual meeting Wednesday, June 3 from 5-8 at Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary in Rye. All members, as well as new and old friends, are invited to attend.

The Sanctuary is a particularly appropriate setting for this major milestone. Mrs. Read was on FCWC’s Board of Directors for many years, including when she and others from FCWC succeeded in persuading the County to establish the property as a county wildlife sanctuary on Long Island Sound.

All past presidents and executive directors who are present will be presented with FCWC’s Green Seal Award, and all former Board members who are present will be recognized.

Katie Yacoub, a Cadette Girl Scout from Eastchester, will receive FCWC’s Edith G. Read Student award at 6, following a short business meeting to re-elect Class of 2018 Board members. The Class of 2018 includes Jan Blaire, Robert Carroll, Steven J. Levy, Sharon Pickett, Chris Reilly, and Rick Turner.

The $25 registration fee ($15 for students) includes a picnic supper. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Sanctuary. Register by June 1 by calling the FCWC office at 422-4053 or going to www.fcwc.org/events. Contact Alicia Molloy, Program Director, at 422-4053 or Carolyn Cunningham, FCWC Board member, at 835-1988 for further information.
