For its fall drama, Rye Country Day School students presented “The Miracle Worker.” This engrossing story about Helen Keller’s early years and her life-changing relationship with her teacher, Annie Sullivan, is as riveting and inspiring today as it was when it first premiered in 1959.

Senior Katie Tyler played Helen and junior Anne Canning portrayed Annie Sullivan in the RCDS production. Each made biographical studies of her character using many primary sources to augment classes in Advanced Acting Techniques.

The choice of “The Miracle Worker” reflects the decision by the school’s Drama and Dance Department to focus this year on American theater classics. In the spring, the Department will present “Guys and Dolls” as its Student/Faculty Musical.
