Anne G. Stevenson, a longtime teacher at Rye Country Day School, and resident of Rye, New York, died on November 2, 2020 at the Sarasota Bay Club in Sarasota, Florida. She was 92.

Born in Bronxville, New York, on July 7, 1928, she was the daughter of Evelyn and Raymond Goewey.

She attended The Walnut Hill School and Smith College and received an MA in Teaching from Manhattanville College. She taught English at Rye Country Day School before becoming head of the English Department, a position she held for 20 years. Following her retirement, she remained active as a volunteer in the teen rehab program at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Mrs. Stevenson was a longtime member of Christ’s Church, and of Apawamis and Manursing Island clubs, where she was an avid tennis player.

She and her second husband, Lincoln Stevenson, shared a love of travel and visited over 65 countries together. They also enjoyed music and attended concerts regularly at Lincoln Center, the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, and Caramoor. They were married for 35 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Robin Martin of Sarasota, Florida (William) and Cary Yarema (C.J.) of Vero Beach; four grandchildren, Bill Stanley (Lisa), Hillary Cappelen (Ryan), Paige Martin, and Audrey Yarema; and her great-grandchild, Rory Stanley. In addition, she is survived by three stepchildren, Jeffrey Stevenson (Debbie), Nicholas Stevenson (Julie), and Christopher Stevenson (Raz), and their ten children.

She will be buried next to her late husband Lincoln Stevenson, who died in 2017, at Christ’s Church. A memorial service will be held when restrictions allow.
