Another Sterling Achievement

More and more college-bound students need a financial leg up, and every year a special group of senior citizens can be called upon for assistance.

More and more college-bound students need a financial leg up, and every year a special group of senior citizens can be called upon for assistance. The generosity of Sterling Park Independent Living Residents at The Osborn was demonstrated at their monthly meeting in June, they gave their annual Academic Achievement Awards to 23 children and grandchildren of employees who are pursuing their higher education dreams.

In presenting the awards with committee chairman Dr. Ed Pascuiti, Lee Starr, Sterling Park Residents Association President, remarked, “This is America, where we pursued our dreams and education and received help and we can help others to achieve their goals.” With this in mind, each year the Sterling Park Residents donate funds for the awards to help employees’ children and grandchildren who are pursuing higher education.

This year’s awards went to students from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Port Chester, Pelham, Putnam Valley, Rye, and Larchmont. Among the schools they are attending are: Boston College, Washington University, Penn State University, Georgia Tech, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Delhi, George Washington University, Westchester Community College, Manhattan College, University of Buffalo, Farmingdale State, New York Institute of Technology.
