A medley of Rye-area swimmers, and one of the state’s top divers, won five events on February 1-2 during the Section 1, Conference 3 Championships.
Horace Greeley won the Conference 3 team title with 433.5 points.
The Rye/Blind Brook/Bronxville combined team placed second with 393 points.
The team is competing in Section 1 championships on February 11-12.
Rye High freshman Liam Egan won two individual swim races during the Conference 3 competition at Purchase College. Egan won the 500 freestyle in 4:54.02. He already has qualified for States in the 200 individual medley, and took the Conference title Saturday in 1:58.54. Sam Rubenstein, a junior from Rye Brook, placed second in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.74 and third in the 200 medley in 2:02.93.
Egan and Rubenstein also helped anchor two winning relay teams. Joining them to win the 200 medley relay in 1:42.37 were junior Gabriele Girotto and senior Josh Hymowitz.
Rye also won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:20.93 with a team comprised of Egan, Hymowitz, Rubenstein, and Patrick MacAulay, a sophomore.
John Paul Flangos, a junior from Bronxville, took first in the February 1 Conference 3 diving competition at Pace University. Flangos placed 6th at Sectionals and has qualified for competition at States.
