Shining a Bold and Beautiful Light on Black Artists

The Rye Arts Center is excited to announce the eagerly anticipated launch of its next exhibit, “Black Artists in the Spotlight: Currents of Creativity.”  The show opens January 25 and runs through Feb. 29. An opening reception will be held 

This compelling showcase, curated by Kicki Storm, is the RAC’s tribute to the richness of the Black Artistic Experience. It will feature a selection of works that invites art collectors, patrons of the arts, community members, artists, and enthusiasts to explore the diverse stories and perspectives woven into each piece.

The Rye Arts Center is proud to provide a platform that amplifies the voices of Black Artists, recognizing their significant contributions to the world of art.

Having Returned from One Mission to Israel, 

Community Synagogue Plans Another

On the last day of 2023 Rabbi Daniel Gropper returned from a rabbinic solidarity mission and family volunteer experience in Israel with his wife Tamara and daughter Noa. Gropper, the senior rabbi of Community Synagogue of Rye, described the trip as “intense, deeply rewarding and incredibly fulfilling.”

Despite the uncertainty of what they would see and encounter while there, he felt an aching need to be in Israel – to demonstrate an unwavering sense of solidarity, to bear witness to the horrors inflicted upon the people of Israel, and to offer support in any way possible. 

In just a few days, they visited Kfar Azza, one of the kibbutzim bordering Gaza which was ravaged by Hamas terrorists; met with Israelis evacuated from their homes in the Negev and the north who are now residing in hotels for an undetermined amount of time; spoke with family members of hostages still being held captive in Gaza; witnessed some of the inspiring ways that Israeli civil society has organized to try and address the profound need of fellow citizens throughout the country; assisted with the harvest of produce; cooked for soldiers on the front lines; and distributed a dozen duffel bags filled with donated items. 

In the words of one of Rabbi Gropper’s colleagues who traveled with him, “In three days, I saw things no one should ever see. And I also witnessed things everyone needs to see.”
