Make Way for Dads
This Saturday, the Rye Nature Center invites fathers and their children ages 3-6 to drop in for an animal adventure at 9:15. The cost for members is $10 per family, $15 non-members.
Papier Play
At the Rye Arts Center on Saturday, kids will learn to look at various types of colored tape and paper in a whole new artistic way. Working with crepe paper and masking and duct tape, young creators will have a ball. Ages 8-10 may attend from 10-11:30, ages 11-13 from 12-1:30.

Commit to Paper
The Rye Free Reading Room invites aspiring and experienced writers to a gathering Saturday from 11-12:30. Share your work, brainstorm, encourage and be encouraged in a welcoming and supportive environment. Writing instructor Carol Costa will lead the first meeting.
Going forward, the Library Writers will meet once a month to discuss works-in-progress, topics, process, and writing challenges.

The Yoga Sutras
Wainwright House is offering a workshop on Sunday from 1-3 on the ethical precepts of yoga. “Yama and Niyama” will explore non-violence, truth, and balance as well as contentment, austerity, and self-study.

Spring Cleaning
On March 12, outdoor lovers will have opportunities to help nature along.
From 10-2 at the Edith Read Sanctuary, volunteers can lend a hand with invasive plant removal, trail work, and beach cleanup.
From 1-3 at the Marshlands Conservancy, help inspect the trails for spring hikers. Bring work gloves; hand tools will be provided.
Steppin’ Out With My Baby
The Rye Free Reading Room’s next Musical Monday lunchtime movie is “Easter Parade,” March 7 from 12-2. Irving Berlin’s classic showcases the talents of Fred Astaire and Judy Garland. Enjoy the Ziegfeld Follies and memorable songs while munching on a brown bag lunch. A light dessert will be provided.
Dynamic Landscapes
Join the Little Garden Club of Rye at the Rye library for an informative talk on New York City’s High Line March 8 from 10:30-12. Patrick Cullina, a horticulturist and urban landscape designer, will lead the presentation.
A Celebration of Cats and Quilts
Join SPRYE March 8 at 11 for a visit to the Bruce Museum and the chance to see two of their new exhibits. “Fierce and Fragile: Big Cats in the Art of Robert Dallet” features painting and sketches illustrating the activities and habitats of big cat species. The exhibit is a collaboration between Paris designer Hermes and Panthera, the global wild cat conservation organization.
The other exhibit, “And Still We Rise: Race, Culture, and Visual Conservation,” showcases 40 unique quilts that narrate four centuries of African-American history.

Lens on Rye
An opening reception for an exhibit by photographer David F. Donnelly will be held at the Rye library March 12 from 1-3. Donnelly has masterfully turned his lens on the local environment to capture the beauty of Rye. Stop by through March 30.
Make Room for Art
On March 12 from 5-7, an opening reception will be held at The Rye Arts Center for “Hot Ticket: Works on Paper.” This curated exhibition of works by emerging and seasoned artists will offer collectors access to new art at affordable prices.
Prints, drawings, and collages will be sold unframed for $1,100 or less. In addition, the entire community will have the opportunity to work collaboratively on an oversized drawing.
The exhibit runs through April 16.
Faculty Concert
The Rye Arts Center’s team of professional musicians, who teach aspiring musicians, will perform at the Center March 12 at 7:30. Enjoy a range of classical and jazz music from Naseer Ashraf, Savannah Bissett, Gerry Fitzgerald, Anne Bach Fumasoli, Matt Garrison, Jason Jacob, Grace Kim, Rachel Weishoff, and Jessica Westerman.

Get the lowdown on Windows 10 at the Rye Free Reading Room March 17 from 10-12. The workshop will cover how to use the start menu, along with new Microsoft Operating System apps, and changes in file handling.
Attendees that have laptops with Windows 10 installed are encouraged to bring them to the seminar. Seating is on a first-come basis.
The Body’s Messengers
The Rye library’s health series continues with “Hormones and Autoimmunity: The Perfect Storm” March 17 from 11-12:30. Dr. Kurt Waples will discuss the role hormones play in a properly functioning immune system, as well as the latest research.
A Serious Side of Food
Join scholar Laura Inman at the Rye library for a series of monthly book discussions about the modern industrial agriculture complex, from food production to modern diets to sustainability. The first discussion, on March 17 from 6:30-8, will cover “Food Politics” by Marion Nestle. Future books include “Diet for a Small Planet” by Frances Moore Lappe, “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair, “Brave New Farm” by Jim Mason, and “Diet Cults” by Matt Fitzgerald.

Situation Room
The Rye library’s Current Events Book Group meets March 22 from 6:30-8 to discuss “Killing Machine: The American Presidency in the Age of Drone Warfare” by Lloyd C. Gardner. Moderated by John Dolan, the group discusses timely economic, political, social, and international concerns on a monthly basis.
Founding Father Among Us
The Jay Heritage Center’s 1907 Van Norden Carriage House has reopened for the season. Two small exhibits currently on display are “The Design of Providence,” a display of artifacts accompanied by a narrative of the Jay Estate. “Home Green Home” offers a kid-sized sustainable dollhouse.
The Carriage House is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:30-4:30. To arrange a weekday tour of the 1838 Jay Mansion, call 698-9275. The suggested donation for a docent-led tour is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, free for members, students, and children.
Set Sail
The Rye YMCA’s Cardboard Boat Regatta is back by popular demand March 11 at 6:30. Families are challenged to design, create, and race a human-powered boat made of cardboard and duct tape. Bring your completed boat to the Y to compete in an artistic contest, then it’s off to the races in the pool to try and win a trophy.

Gardening 101
The Rye Nature Center invites families with children ages 10 and up to gain gardening knowledge March 12 at 9:30. Whether starting from scratch, looking to add something new, or just curious, participants will be able to devise a plan for vegetable, perennial, and wildlife gardens.
The fee is $7 per family for members, $10 non-members.
Ecology Club
Children with special needs are invited to bring a family member with them to the Rye Nature Center March 12 at 3:30. Enjoy animal programs, hikes, and other science and sensory adventures.

Date Night
Enjoy a night out while the Rye YMCA provides a safe and fun environment for the kids on March 18 from 6:30-9. The fee for ages 3 months to 5 years is $15 per child for family members, $20 for non-members, including a snack. For grades K through 6, the fee is $20 per child for family members, $27 for child members, $36 for non-members.

Getting the Creative Juices Flowing
“Writeopia: Creative Writing Just for Fun” will be held at the Rye High School Media Center Reference Room on March 8 from 2:45-3:45. Leading the workshop is Maureen Mancini Amaturo who will focus on fostering creativity and freeing the writing process from stress.

Causing a Scene
The Rye library invites teens to “The Art of Improv” on March 10 from 6:30-7:45. Learn all about improvisation comedy from comedian/actress Kaitlyn Murphy. Participants will be able to get up off their seats and improvise.

A girls-only coding workshop will be held at the Rye Free Reading Room March 11 from 4-5:20. Stripping away stereotypes, instructor Irum Khan will teach grades 6-8 the coding needed for on-line games.

March Madness
The Rye YMCA saves the second Saturday of each month for games, fitness, food, and fun for middle schoolers. On March 12 from 7-10, some activities will revolve around Divergent Drift, the adventure-based travel web series. There will also be a “Fear Factor” activity, a swim party, and a March Madness Tournament.

The Rye Free Reading Room invites reading fans to join the librarians for once-a-month lively book discussions. On March 19 from 3-4, the I-Read-a-Latte Book Club (grades 5 and 6) will talk about “Cosmic” by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
On March 26 from 3-4, Ryebrary Readers (grades 1 and 2) will talk about “Queen Victoria’s Bathing Machine” by Gloria Whelan. Also on March 26 from 4 to 5, Rye Rockin’ Readers (grades 3 and 4) will discuss “The Mysteries of Harris Burdick” by Chris Van Allsburg.

Church Chamber Concert
All are welcome to Rye Presbyterian Church for a chamber music concert on March 20 at 2:30. The program includes Debussy Sonata for Cello and Piano, Mozart Piano Quartet in G minor and the Chausson Piano Quartet.
The talented artists include violinist Jeffrey Multer, Concertmaster of the Florida Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina; violist Danielle Farina, soloist, recording artist and teacher; cellist Edward Arron, Music Director of the Met Museum Artists in Residence for ten years and Artistic Director of Musical Masterworks; pianist Jeewon Park, co-artistic director of the new Performing Artists in Residence Series at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Mass.

The League of Women Voters’ Annual Luncheon will be held April 8 from 12-2 at Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck. The keynote speaker, Westchester County Legislator Catherine Parker, will discuss “Making Westchester’s Economic Development a Model of Sustainability in the 21st Century.”
