They have a new president, Elizabeth Kaminer, new lighting in the gallery, new board members, many of whom bring specific interests to the board, and the staff merged the newsletter with the catalog to create a handsome, new brochure.

In the old house on Milton Road that has housed the Rye Arts Center for over 50 years, new is the buzzword. They have a new president, Elizabeth Kaminer, new lighting in the gallery, new board members, many of whom bring specific interests to the board, and the staff merged the newsletter with the catalog to create a handsome, new brochure.

“Everyone here is very enthusiastic about the changes,” said Ms. Kaminer. “The key things for us are that all of our instructors are working artists and we’re doing great things as far as outreach, including at least six new programs with Port Chester High School.”

Among the new fall offerings are: a youth drawing/painting club, mixed media classes for ages 4 and 5, watercolor painting classes for teens, Saturday ceramics, fashion illustration, digital photography for the absolute beginner, intro to graphic design, and acting level II.

The staff and board are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the “vacation locations” national juried exhibit — their first — and sale. The preview party is September 9; the show opens to the public September 13. On September 25, they’re holding a celebration of Ogden Nash, “a local boy who made very, very good.”
