Women’s tennis standout Emily Fraser was honored as the University of Virginia’s top female athlete for the 2011-12 academic year at the school’s annual awards dinner May 2. Fraser, a senior from Rye, has a singles record of 27-13 this season, including a record of 12-5 in No. 1 singles competition in dual match play.

 

Women’s tennis standout Emily Fraser was honored as the University of Virginia’s top female athlete for the 2011-12 academic year at the school’s annual awards dinner May 2. Fraser, a senior from Rye, has a singles record of 27-13 this season, including a record of 12-5 in No. 1 singles competition in dual match play.

 

She is ranked No. 21 nationally and earlier this season ranked No. 15, the highest ranking for a UVA women’s tennis player in 17 years. In doubles competition, Fraser and teammate Lindsey Hardenbergh have compiled a 9-2 record, which ranks the duo No. 20 nationally.

 

Fraser earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors for the second time in her career this season and qualified for NCAA singles and doubles competition for a second consecutive year. Her career record is 102-54 in singles competition.

 

This has been an award-winning year for Fraser who also received the ITA (the NCAA’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association) 2012 Atlantic Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, as well as the ITA 2012 Atlantic Region Senior of the Year. She has been captain of the UVA team for the past three years, and played No. 1 singles and doubles for the majority of her freshman, junior, and senior years. Despite a shoulder injury her sophomore year, Fraser still played No. 2.
