Jonah Shainberg, a Rye High School sophomore, was invited to join U.S. Olympic fencer Tim Morehouse in a fencing demonstration at Carmel Academy in Greenwich at 10:30 a.m. on Friday June 8.
Shainberg, 16, is ranked first in the nation among male saber fencers under the age of 18.
Morehouse, a silver medalist in the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, China, will compete with the U.S. National Fencing Team at this summer’s Olympics in London.
Shainberg received a gold medal at the U.S. Fencing National Championships last summer, and a bronze medal at the U.S. Junior Olympics in February.
Jacqueline Prata of Purchase competed on the 10-and-under team which placed first last weekend in synchronized swimming for the New Canaan Aquianas.
Her team competed in Regionals and advanced to the East Coast Zone Championships in Buffalo.
Jackie also won medals for her solo performance (second place) and duet performance (third place).
