Don Bosco Community Center of Port Chester hosted their Third Annual Fusion of Flavors Gala November 7 at Apawamis Club. The event celebrated the recent opening of Café Alma (Café Soul) at the center.

The Food Network sponsored event featured tastings from Café Alma’s Chair-Chef Rafael Palomino’s area restaurants. Additionally, there was cuisine from Bar Taco and from along “Main Street Port Chester.”

Father Richard Alejunas, who heads up the cooking program, announced that, “Classes have begun with our first group of local teens, and we are pleased to have them here tonight to help with this fantastic event.”

The program targets teens 14-19 and consists of a 10-class curriculum ranging from basic knife skills to full culinary training. Local chefs offer the expertise and will be among those hiring graduates from the program to staff their teams. Class size is limited to 12 students per session to promote one-to-one attention.

“Through the generosity of the Westchester and Greenwich communities and the Food Network, we have a sold culinary education program in place and a waiting list of students for the program,” said Don Bosco board member Ann Heekin.
