“By all accounts the past year has been a busy and productive one,” noted member Liz Northshield. “Our gift to the City of Rye, a Blue Star Memorial By-Way marker, was installed on the grounds of City Hall. We are all very proud of this achievement and thank the City Council members who whole-heartedly supported us in the endeavor.” 

 

The Club also created and distributed floral ‘tray favors’ for Meals on Wheels during the holiday season, and again for Valentine’s Day. Members decorated 19 wreaths for the veterans at Montrose Veterans Hospital and Residence. They held a class in flower arrangement for the Rye Seniors and helped the Recreation Department (the club’s meeting location host) with the restoration and redesign of a memorial garden at the Recreation Center on Midland Avenue. 

This spring, in time for Memorial Day, Ceres members planted 48 hanging baskets of geraniums to adorn Purchase Street as well as Purdy Avenue, and also planted at City Hall in front of the Blue Star and at the sundial garden. The members of Ceres extend thanks to the Department of Public Works for its assistance on the day of the planting, as well as hanging and maintaining the plantings all season long. 

 

While club members are all looking forward to a restful summer, they already have plans in the works for a busy fall season. Ceres always welcomes new members, so please consider joining them in the fall.
