The Council got the ball rolling by creating a class contest, in which the four grades compete against one other in various challenges. They kicked it off in December by collecting toys for less fortunate families with the assistance of local physician Kevin Maloney, who has run area drives for many years. Laura Kehoe, who worked with Dr. Maloney in the past, brought the idea to the Council.
“It feels great to have the Student Council involved with such a good cause,” said Axel Hufford, Council Co-President.
The freshmen won the challenge by collecting over 200 toys. Five-hundred toys were collected in all. With many more class challenges to go, and the rest of the school year ahead, the Council can’t wait to roll out the rest of its plans.
Mr. James Baker, a social studies teacher and the Student Council advisor, noted, “Students are competitive, so making competition part of the experience will hopefully draw people in.”
