While You Were Sleeping
This time of year, one of the most exciting things for grownups is waking up to discover that hundreds of lights have been strung around their front door, on railings, and through trees and bushes, and the planters are festooned with greenery.
Deb Ryan, like Santa, works late into the night.
She earned her decorative wings doing displays at Macy’s and then moved on to Neiman Marcus as Assistant Visual Manager. Customers would often stop and watch Ryan working her magic in the Trim-a-Tree department. After a number of shoppers asked if she would decorate their homes for the holidays, she started her own business.
In November and December, Ryan “sleeps in Greenwich but lives in Rye”, where most of her clients are. The rest of the year she devotes to her decorative painting business.
Ryan not only does doors and windows, but also mantels, staircases, and centerpieces. She spreads light and joy wherever she goes.
