The Rye YMCA and its Safe Routes to School Committee, in partnership with the Rye High School Art Department, have once again sponsored “Heads Up! A Safe Driving and Walking Poster Contest.”

The Rye YMCA and its Safe Routes to School Committee, in partnership with the Rye High School Art Department, have once again sponsored “Heads Up! A Safe Driving and Walking Poster Contest.” Sixty-five students in Digital Photography classes worked hard to design posters promoting safety, and have voted on the best of their class.

 

The works of 21 finalists, seven each from the freshmen, sophomore, and junior classes, were presented to a panel of community leaders, who spent a recent morning at City Hall judging them and narrowing the field down to three winners.

 

Congratulations to Maeve McGowan, Ellen Scully, and Katrina Roth, who respectively finished first, second, and third. All three were at the Rye Arts Center on Wednesday night for the opening reception of the exhibit of the works of the finalists. The exhibit runs through February 14 and then moves to the Rye Free Reading Room.

 

Rye Y Community Outreach Coordinator Lisa Urban, who was at the opening reception, along with Mayor Joe Sack and a number of community leaders, praised Rye High photography teacher Nichole Chiffriller and students for their skills behind the camera and for creating greater awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and walking.
