Dr. Diane Giambo LoRusso, a well-respected radiologist, of Rye and Harrison, New York, passed away on March 8, 2023. She was 76.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Joseph and Nancy (Raimondi) Giambo. She was valedictorian of her class at Lafayette High School. She graduated cum laude from New York University, where she earned an undergraduate degree with honors in mathematics and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her medical degree cum laude from S.U.N.Y. Upstate and became a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.

Dr. LoRusso was senior founding partner of Rye Radiology Associates where she cared for patients for over 45 years. As a diagnostic radiologist, she specialized in Women’s Imaging, and she served as Chair of the American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer Detection Project, Westchester Division, for eight years. In recognition of her 50 years of medical practice, Dr. LoRusso was honored by the Westchester County Medical Society. For over two decades, she was chosen by her peers as one of Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors” in Diagnostic Radiology. She also earned special recognition as one of the “Exceptional Women in Medicine”.

Outside her medical practice, she was an accomplished landscape and portrait artist, who exhibited in juried shows and won awards. Her works are in the collection of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, as well as in private collections. As a lover of the fine arts, as well as the performing arts, she delighted in visiting museums, the opera, the ballet, and plays and musicals, especially with her children and grandchildren.

She also enjoyed many travel adventures with her family over the years, including skiing in the Rockies, touring Europe’s capitals, and relaxing at the beach and nature preserves in Naples, Florida, and Kiawah, South Carolina.  Closer by, she frequented both the New York and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  Her happiest place was at home, in the house she designed and built, overlooking the wildlife on the pond, and admiring the daffodils every spring and the breathtaking landscape as it changed throughout the seasons.

In addition to her loving husband of 56 years, Patrick LoRusso, she is survived by her brothers, Joseph Giambo Jr. (Sandra), of Harrison, and Robert Giambo (Colleen), of Cos Cob, Conn.; her daughter, Stephanie Larsen, of Riverside, Conn., her son, Dr. Alexander LoRusso (Dr. Karen LoRusso), of Santa Fe, N.M.; and her adored grandchildren, Maxwell and Gemma Larsen, and Ryan and Darcy LoRusso.

A private burial was held at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. A memorial service will be held June 9 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection in Rye.

Donations in Diane LoRusso’s memory may be made to St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, White Plains, New York, or the Cancer Support Team, Purchase, New York.
