Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore, at a League of Women Voters event in Rye Sunday, discussed the state’s new Joint Commission on Public Ethics, which has broad investigatory authority to investigate corruption and maintain integrity and ethics in New York. DiFiore was appointed by the governor in December to chair JCOPE.
District Attorney Janet DiFiore, speaking to more than 70 people Sunday at a fund-raising event for the local League of Women Voters, discussed her duties as chair of JCOPE, the state’s new Joint Commission on Public Ethics. Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed DiFiore to lead JCOPE, which replaced the Commission on Public Integrity. DiFiore said JCOPE is an independent enforcement agency with broad oversight of state government including subpoena powers. Debbie Reisner, president of the LWV for Rye, Rye Brook, and Port Chester, called formation of the commission “an initiative that many would agree was long overdue and desperately needed in New York state.” The LWV event was at the Rye home of Joyce and Paul Rheingold. About a dozen elected officials attended the party.
