Don’t Underestimate the Value of RyeTV

< The following letter was addressed to the Rye City Council and forwarded to the paper by the author for publication.>

I am eager to share with the Rye City Council my own first-hand experience with RyeTV.

As part of the “Rye Views” group at RyeTV, I have been involved there for approximately five years and have gained invaluable, and otherwise unavailable, tech experience in a male-dominated field. In fact, I am moving closer to my goal of running a small business providing video content.

In her letter to The Rye Record (September 14, 2018), Meg Cameron made some valid points (example: community cable tv is practically obsolete), but she also missed a few key things, perhaps because she is not very familiar with the organization. For instance, she seems to be unaware that most people watch online at www.ryetv.org and post videos weekly on Facebook.

She also seems to be unaware of what an AMAZING time the middle school kids have been having at the RyeTV studio over many years. Their horizons are being widened in tremendously creative and technological ways. Some have even gone into this field during and after college.

She also seemed to be unaware of the valuable service RyeTV provides not-for-profit organizations, by filming PSAs for their websites and recording live events for rebroadcast.

I did like what Ms. Cameron said about coming up with a modern version of RyeTV, a media commission of sorts. Let’s explore!

Please DO ask us what we think! We will share insights you may not have considered. Other people producing for “Rye Views” (working list):
