Ed Ball

Edward Hamilton Ball, a former Rye resident, passed away on September 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 71.

Born in Port Chester, he was the son of Elizabeth and Lt. James Balls. He grew up in Rye and attended Rye High School. At age 17, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a Green Beret who fought in Vietnam as a member of the 173rd Airborne unit. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal with Valor.

Known for his kindness and great sense of humor, he was a wonderful and imaginative writer. He took great pleasure in music, singing, and dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dias Ball; son Edward, a Rye police officer, and his wife Vanessa of Port Chester, sons Jason and Daniel of Columbia, S.C., and daughter Lauren Ball Suter of Yalaha, Fla. He leaves behind grandsons Griffin, Garrett, Isaiah, Zachariah, and Alexander; his brother, James Ball (Kate) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and sisters, Elizabeth Murphy (Shane) of Fort Mill, S.C., and Victoria Marrin (Owen) of Columbia, S.C. He is also survived by his best friend, a kitty named Karma.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Daniel.

Ed Ball was buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, S.C. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org), an organization that provided him with tremendous support.
