The Rye Lions Club has been hard at work and celebrating in recent weeks. At their Charter Night Dinner, held November 22 at American Yacht Club, they honored Sandy Samberg, recipient of the 2013 James A. and Marian M. Shea Community Service Award.
At the club’s December meeting, they enjoyed guest speakers Gail Resnikoff and Becky Barnes from Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Club President Susan Olson and Secretary/Treasurer Dave Heller presented the organization with a check for $1,000 to support their important work.
Before Christmas, club members were out in force on Purchase Street ringing the bell for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. Every December, the club assists the Salvation Army in raising funds for disaster relief services, holiday assistance, vocational training, substance abuse rehabilitation, and much more.
The Rye Lions Club meets every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Apawamis Club. If you are interested in attending a meeting or joining, contact Susan Olson at 925-8372.
