Midland Stop Sign a Go

 

The stop sign on Midland Avenue, requested by resident Jim Amico for more than six years, has been approved by the Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Committee. What was a temporary sign has now received permanent status.

 

Golf Club on Better Course

 

The City has retained the law firm of Brune & Richard to further investigate the relationship between Club Manager Scott Mayor and RM Associates, the firm the club used for most of its temporary help since 2007. The Mayor asked Councilwoman Laura Brett to be liaison with the investigating counsel. The Council voted 7-0 to approve the transfer of $30,000 from the Contingency Account to cover the costs of legal services.

 

At the most recent Golf Club Commission meeting, John Duffy was voted in as the new chairman, replacing Rich Verille. City Manager Scott Pickup, who is working on the 2013 budget with the Commission, said next year’s budget will include no use of fund balance and no dues increase. “We’re going to squeeze some of the expenses and maintain membership as a starting point,” he said.

 

The mood at the Commission meeting was a lot more positive than in previous meetings. Members of the club agreed with the Commission taking on a bigger advisory role and the City Manager providing oversight, that they could bring a wonderful club back to the community it was designed to serve.
