After finishing the season with a 6-2 record, Rye High’s swim/dive team sent 11 girls to the Sectional meet at Felix Fiesta last weekend. Four RHS swimmers qualified for this weekend’s State competition in Ithaca.
At States, senior captain Melissa Fulenwider will compete in three events: the 100-meter freestyle, 100–meter breaststroke, and 400-meter freestyle relay. The other three members of the 400-meter relay team qualifying for States are senior captain Katie Konopka, Charlotte Nixon, and Kelly Delane. It’s the second time the relay team has qualified for States.
Coach Shannon Bolger called Sectionals “a great few days!” Fulenwider placed second in the 100-meter freestyle as well as in the 100-meter breaststroke and she is up for All America consideration in the breaststroke. This is her fifth trip to States.
Diver Norah Murphy placed fourth at Sectionals, just shy of advancing to States.
