The School of the Holy Child held its annual sports awards dinner on June 4th. The event was held at their Rye campus under the sparkling white graduation tent on a perfectly cool spring evening.

The School of the Holy Child held its annual sports awards dinner on June 4th. The event was held at their Rye campus under the sparkling white graduation tent on a perfectly cool spring evening.

 

Head of School Ann Sullivan launched the evening with eloquent opening remarks to students and parents. Amy Pare, Holy Child’s newly-appointed athletic director, followed with a flawless two-hour program, during which coaches, teams, and athletes received accolades.

 

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Herb Mulholland Award to senior Claire Holleran, a Rye Brook resident. Mulholland was an avid Holy Child sports supporter whose life was cut short by cancer. Holy Child makes sure that his spirit lives on with his namesake annual award.

 

An awards dinner can be a bittersweet experience for some seniors and their parents. The majority of these athletes will not step on a field to compete again for college teams, and may lose the great sense of teamwork; while moms and dads lose the weekly fellowship of other parents in the stands.

 

At the end of this pre-summer evening in Rye, all the young athletes held their heads high knowing that in later years each would look back to reflect upon fond and proud memories of the Holy Child sports experience.
