After finishing the regular season with four wins, the Garnets snuck into the playoffs thanks in large part to great goalkeeping by senior captain Liam Harris.
Despite a record of 4-12-1, RHS snagged the 18th seed, defeating Riverside High School on Thursday, 2-1. The Garnets were victorious after a penalty kick by Colby Ellis found the net, breaking a 1-1 tie.
After a team lunch last Friday, the squad headed down to the turf at Nugent Stadium to take on the Port Chester Rams, who were the second seed in the playoffs. Rye’s comeback season ended with a 3-0 loss.
Coach Judd Rothstein and Coach Jared Small said they were proud of the way the team came together. Senior Brandon LaBella said the coaches gave the players a speech citing how many obstacles were overcome by the 2012 team.
