Rye’s volleyball team remains in first place in the League, but begrudgingly shares that distinction with Blind Brook.

The Garnets are 10-2 in the League and 10-3 overall after beating Mamaroneck and Pleasantville but losing to Keio and Blind Brook this month.

The October 11 match against Blind Brook at home was Rye’s DIG PINK fundraiser for breast cancer. The team raised $600, but lost the match 3-2 in a valiant effort.

The Garnets struggled through the first two games, as nerves and an injured star, Jessie Moore, seemed to get the better of them.

In the fifth game, Blind Brook was unstoppable and Rye caved.

Sophomore Sam Viger and junior Kelsey Chapderlane have done a phenomenal job of filling in for the sidelined Moore.

Senior Meri Biga has starred on defense and Courtney Brown leads the team in kills.

Coach Andrea Reiff said she was proud of how well the team played, regardless of the loss. “The girls have the heart and the drive this season to accomplish anything they put their minds to.”
