RHS girls’ field hockey team is 4-1-3 and while their defense has been stellar, they’ve been struggling mightily to score.

They tied Harrison, 1-1, at home September 24. They beat Fox Lane, 1-0, on September 28.

After the Harrison game, a frustrated Coach Emily Fitzgerald said, “We need to play a solid game for 60 minutes without these lapses.”

Against Fox Lane, the Garnets did play a solid 60 minutes, and earned a 1-0 victory. Senior captain Alex Bennett scored in the first half off a corner kick and junior Meredith Tibbals had the assist. Rye’s defense was strong, with senior captain Lacey Collins playing well in the cage. Coach Fitzgerald was pleased, saying, “The girls stepped up and increased the intensity.”
