“Deirdre has demonstrated, in an outstanding way, the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism,” said chapter president Barbara Brunner. Her essay on freedom of speech was selected as the winner at the chapter and district levels (Westchester and Putnam counties), and then forwarded to be judged at the state level.
While maintaining a 100.97 GPA, Deirdre has participated in multiple sports, including the Girls’ Basketball team, and in many community outreach activities, included a diabetes fundraiser, Teaching for Change to help adults learn English, and volunteering on spring weekends at the Henry Street shelter in New York City.
