At the June 6 Rye Chamber of Commerce meeting, Rye Arts Center Executive Director Helen Gates reported that one of the sculptures installed downtown went missing over Memorial Day Weekend.

“It is bright orange, 24 inches tall, made of resin. The police are investigating, and we hope that with local banks’ security cameras in the vicinity, we will soon have some leads resulting in the sculpture’s return.”

Gates added, “Of course, anytime vandalism or theft occurs, it’s a sad occasion, but this is particularly so given that these pieces have been exhibited in NYC and LA, and as far as I know, Rye is where they ended up falling victim to vandalism.

“I just hope it turns up so that we can return it to the artists who produced these pieces as a way to support themselves, a newborn baby, and other art projects for the public.”
