Holy Child’s squash team had a tough season, with several seniors sidelined by injuries and illness. The Gryphons finished the season at 2-15.
Despite the difficult season, Coach Mary Ann Noyer said the girls deserve a lot of credit for working incredibly hard and practicing before school every day at 6:45 a.m. They also constantly adjusted their roster to compensate for ill or injured players, Noyer said.
Noyer singled out Camille Cavicchio for her victories and competitive matches at the No. 4 position in her first year of play. Noyer also praised sophomores Christina Casino and Caroline Gillespie, and freshmen Caitlin Webers and Sydney Brodie all of whom “stepped it up and played at higher positions through much of the season.”
The coach also thanked senior tri-captains Liz McCooey, Ellen Rote, and Katie Rogan who she said fought hard in the top three spots all winter against the toughest opponents in the league.
