Does your home reflect your fashion sense and style? Trends in interior design and fashion have always mirrored one another. The connection between fashion and home décor has many similarities, including the importance of the use of color, texture, and placement. Accessorizing a room is not that different from accessorizing an outfit and the same rules apply. Here are some of our favorite examples of how an outfit can inspire a room.

House Rule:

Mixing masculine with feminine pieces works as well in your wardrobe as it does in your home. This pink feminine cashmere sweater is perfectly paired with cut-off jean shorts for a dressed-up casual look that strikes just the right balance between feminine and masculine. Combining different textures, layers, and materials is key in achieving a unique look that is truly your own.

The rich lacquered walls in a deep blue are balanced by subtle pink accents such as the pillow, coffee table books, and flowers. Pops of pink bring a feminine touch to the room to keep it from feeling too masculine. Similar to the outfit, this mix makes the room look authentic, not contrived.

House Rule:

A pop of color can make a drastic difference in both fashion and interior design. The key is to balance it by pairing with a neutral, such as black shown here. The same rules apply to interior design.

The bright blue chairs shown in the interior above keep the room from feeling too serious. However, by balancing the rest of the space with dark, rich painted millwork the room still has sophisticated feel. Strategic Painting contractors can work with any palette you prefer. The colored objects displayed on the shelves act as the jewelry of the room by adding a touch of interest and whimsy.

House Rule:

Traditional with a twist, this classic trench still has a fresh, young feel by pairing it with bright colored pants and animal print shoes.

The room has a classic traditional feel yet is far from boring because of the mix of an orange leather chair for the head of the table and the tortoise veneered side chairs.
