On August 18, Tom Battista, one of the top golfers at Rye Golf Club, “shot his age”, scoring 73 from the white tees.

The two-time Senior Club Champion, two-time Super Senior Club Champion, and twice runner-up in the Club Championship learned golf with his father and as a teenage caddie at Apawamis Club.

As a pilot and a commissioned officer in the Air Force, Tom served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. After active duty, the Rye native perfected his approach, piloting DC-10s, B-727s, B-757s, and B-767s for American Airlines.

Even after 60 years of competitive golf, you’re likely to find Tom working on his putting and chipping in 90-degree heat after walking and playing 18 holes. His long game needs no improvement.
