The quote by Margaret Mead in The Osborn Flag Day program summed it up perfectly: “Somehow we have to get older people back close to growing children if we are to restore a sense of community, a knowledge of the past, and a sense of the future.”
In celebration of Flag Day, members of the Midland and Milton Choruses and the Osborn Melody Makers marched into The Osborn for a patriotic sing-along with the residents. A number of senior citizens reflected on what the American flag means to them, especially because of their service in the Armed Forces many years ago.
This event was the first in a partnership for intergenerational programming between the Rye City School District and The Osborn Community.
There is a special connection between the “greatest” and youngest generations, and much will be gained from fostering the relationship between two, and slowing down just long enough to appreciate the treasure that is right around the corner from all of us.
