Irmgard Buxeder, owner of the local Baskin-Robbins and a fixture at Poppy’s Café, died on December 26, 2019. She was 93.

 

Born on February 1,1926 in Aichach, Germany, she was the daughter of Theodore and Katharina (Sitzman) Muhlberger.

 

In 1964, Irmi, as she was called, moved to America. For many years, she and her sister, Hilda Chapderlane, co-owned Baskin-Robbins. For the last 30 years, Irmi worked as a waitress at Poppy’s Café, also in downtown Rye. She retired at the age of 90 but you could find her there on Friday afternoons chopping vegetables at the back table.

 

She loved to be around people, said her family. Until a few years ago, she was an avid bowler. Among her greatest pleasures were playing Bingo and cards and attending softball games.

 

She was predeceased by her husband George Buxeder in 1980, her sister Hilda in 2012, and her son Rolf Buxeder in 2017. She is survived by her grandchildren: Sandra Berardi (George) of Mamaroneck, Ralph Buxeder (Vesna) of New Rochelle, Anthony DiNobile (Kirstin) of Arizona, and John DiNobile of Delaware; her daughter-in-law Joanne Buxeder; her niece Gerri Piovesan (Bobby); and her nephew Robert Chapderlane (Sharon).

 

The family received friends at Graham Funeral Home in Rye on December 30.
