Jan Groglio

Jeannette Groglio, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2024, in Rye, N.Y., where she had lived since 1962.

Born on Jan. 26, 1935, in Mamaroneck, N.Y., she was the daughter of John and Katherine (Labrusciano) Rutland. Jay, as she was called, graduated from Harrison High School, where she was a head majorette, in 1953.

Her life took a joyful turn when she married Joseph Groglio on Oct. 13, 1957, at The Church of St. Gregory the Great in Harrison. He was the love of her life. They had four children.

The loving matriarch of a family that revered her, Mrs. Groglio was also a pillar of the community and a dedicated leader. She was past president of the Women’s Auxiliary and the Rye Babe Ruth League. She served with distinction as president of the John Cabot Association in Harrison and, starting in 1985, led the Columbiettes Auxiliary Edward F. O’Sullivan, working tirelessly to uphold the spiritual, social, and charitable welfare of its members. She was also past president of the Women’s Auxiliary and the Rye Babe Ruth Little League. Her talent for organizing and hosting fashion shows made her a popular figure in local fundraising circles.

Her dedication to family was unwavering and you could always find her cheering on her children at every one of their Rye High School sports events and activities.

She worked in the accounting office of Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of the staff and the waterfront backdrop.

Jan Groglio had an extraordi-nary ability to make every person she encountered feel valued and loved. Her generosity of spirit was boundless, and her thought-ful gestures left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Groglio, in 1994, son Michael, and a daughter-in-law, Kim Groglio. In addition to her children, Joseph W. Groglio Jr. (Valerie) of Singer Island, Fla., Robert J. Groglio of Westport, Conn., and Paula Groglio of Rye, she is survived by four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Lola Grasso; her sisters-in-law, Honey Anderson and Emily Groglio; and many extended family members in the Rye area.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Church of the Resurrection on March 2.
