Craig Simandl

Craig Phillip Simandl, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2024, at his home in Rye, N.Y., after a short battle with a rare form of cancer. He was 59.

Born in Bronxville, N.Y., on May 31, 1964, he was the son of Joanne (Palmer) and Jerome J. Simandl, who reside in Madison, Conn.

After graduating from Rye High School, where he was a star lacrosse player, he went on to Hobart College, where he made many lifelong friendships.

After college, Mr. Simandl embarked on a career in banking in New York City, which led him to a unique opportunity in California, where he and his family moved for a brief time.

But his entrepreneurial spirit drew him back to Rye, where he started a residential construction business. BHK LLC, which was named for his children. He and his business partner were well known for creating high-quality homes and additions.

His love for sports continued throughout his life and he was an avid tennis and paddle tennis player who garnered many trophies. His athletic ability was evident in every sport and game he attempted — from skiing and mountain bik-ing to pool and ping-pong.

A loving father of three children, he cherished every moment spent with them, including riding in his classic Mustang or boating on Long Island Sound on True Blue.

He was a lifelong member of American Yacht Club, where he made friends who were by his side until his final days.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Simandl is survived by his children, Brendan, Hannah, and Kyle of Rye, as well as his brothers, Chris of Magagnosc, France and Jonathan of Old Greenwich, Conn., and their families. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his loving and caring part-ner, AnneMarie Cheverko whose amazing love, kindness, and support will never be forgotten.

“Craig’s enthusiasm and zest for life will be deeply missed, as will his warm smile,” said his family.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated February 24 at Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
