State Senator George Latimer was reelected to a second term November 4, defeating his Republican rival Joe Dillon. Unofficial 37th Senatorial District vote tallies showed Latimer with a total of 35,749 or 53 percent of the vote to Dillon’s 32,175 or 47 percent.

Included in Latimer’s total were 3,066 votes, or 5 percent from the Working Families Party, while Dillon garnered over 5,000 votes, or 6 percent from the Conservative and Independence party lines.

Assemblyman Steve Otis, running unopposed on the Democratic, Working Families, and Independence lines, was reelected in the 91st Assembly District to a second term, receiving a total of 16,326 votes.

Also running unopposed in the 16th Congressional District election, Democrat Eliot Engel was returned to Congress, with 60,184 votes.

In Rye, Richard Mecca and Richard Slack, who were appointed to the City Council in January, were elected. The candidates were endorsed by both the Rye Republican and Democratic parties, and also appeared on the Conservative line. Mecca received 1,774 Democratic votes, 1,612 Republican votes, and 194 Conservative votes. Slack polled 1,727 from the Democrats, 1,586 from Republicans, and 179 Conservative votes.

Voters approved all three propositions on the state ballot.

At press time, breakdowns of how Rye districts voted in the various state, and City races, as well as voter turnout data was unavailable; however, voting around Rye was described by one official as brisk and poll workers as being busy throughout the day.
