He’s smart. He’s a record setter. And he’s a redhead. All Andrew Livingston lacked up to now was a Rye Lions Club Athlete of the Month award. Well, he can check that one off his list as well. In recognition of his academic and athletic achievements, Livingston is the first athlete of the 2014-15 school year to be so honored by the Lions.

It’s football season, so let’s start on the gridiron. As a junior, the 6’ 2” co-captain threw for 25 touchdowns and over 2,000 yards, writing his name in the Garnets’ record books and leading his team to the Sectional finals against Somers. He even kicked a 47-yard field goal.

Once the 2013 football season ended, the awards season began. Livingston was named First Team All-League and All-Section; “Back of the Year” in Section 1; named to the All-Metro Team by MSG Varsity; selected “Player of the Year” by The Journal News; and picked for the All-State Second Team.

This year, he led the Garnets through an undefeated September and a wallow in the Brook after winning The Game. He’s already passed for 15 TDs and more than 1,500 yards without throwing an interception in his first seven games, putting him within sight of Section 1’s all-time passing records and leading the top-seeded Garnets once again into the post-season. Within the last month he’s been named a Con Ed Award winner and was given the coveted Chris Mello Award, named for another Garnet great, at the Harrison game.

Looking ahead, Andrew will attend a lot of post-season awards banquets for his football prowess. Then, if he can work off all the rubber chicken, he’ll captain the Garnets’ basketball team this winter.

Off the playing field and the hardwood, Livingston’s GPA is a little north of 95 with a composite 2120 on his SATs. Not surprisingly, he’s an Advanced Placement Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. Next year, Andrew will take his talents to Brown University.
Why Brown? “I was lucky enough to be recruited by most of the Ivies,” he told the paper. “I knew I wanted a good education, and Brown was definitely in my top three. When they made me an offer in July, I took it.”

Smart, Brown. Very smart.
