Local Triathletes Finish Among the Elite at 26th JWT

It’s only fitting that Rye’s hometown heroes succeeded in the event held in their own backyard September 25. Once again, Shelly Wolfson headlined the local cast at the Jarden Westchester Triathlon, finishing first among non-professional females with a time of 2:17:20. The 43-year-old edged fellow resident Noga Ruttenberg by just over a minute.

In the 15-19 age bracket, Celia Palmer and Camila Perez-Segnini placed No. 1 and 2 with respective times of 2:43:16 and 2:56:40. Heather Baden (10th) and Liz Delizia (11th) finished three seconds apart among 35-39 year olds, while Melissa Grieco took fifth in the 40-44 bracket at 2:41:56. Nancy Rieger (2:53:44) and Katherine Irwin (3:00:24) placed fourth and fifth in the 50-54 division.

On the men’s side, Rye’s Pie Geelen was tops among residents with a 2:10:51. That time was good for fourth among the non-professional competitors. William Curran won the 60-64 group in 2:38:28, and Philip Gormley took fourth in the 50-54 division, clocking in at 2:24:03. Ed Cooper (2:20:58) placed eighth among 45-49 year olds, while William Formon (2:15:55) was fourth-best in the 40-44 bracket. Donald Gervais rounded out the top-five 35-39 finishes at 2:18:22, as did Tyler Breckenridge (2:35:10) and Henry Beshar (2:43:08) in the 15-19 group.
