Marcia Fox Jacobs of Rye, New York, passed away on November 22, 2020 at her home at The Osborn, at the age of 103.

She was born in New York City on June 25, 1917. She received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Social Work from New York University.

During World War II, she was the sole psychiatric caseworker responsible for psychiatric care at Gallinger Hospital (later District of Columbia General Hospital) in Washington, D.C. She also worked for Yonkers and Scarsdale Family Services.

Mrs. Jacobs was Director of Social Services at the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale and was a supervisor of outpatient services at Payne Whitney Clinic of New York Hospital.

After retiring, she was a volunteer at Purchase College, and served on the boards of Human Development Services of Westchester and the Westchester Chamber Music Society.

“Our mother was a remarkable woman, warm, loving, beautiful, and very smart,” said her sons. “She had an exuberance for life and always showed affection to others, especially children and animals. She was beloved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.”

Her husband, Dr. Arthur T. Jacobs, to whom she was married for 80 years, predeceased her. He died in October 2018 at the age of 106.

In addition to her sons, Dr. John W. Jacobs (Dr. Vivian Diller) and Jeffrey F. Jacobs (Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs), she is survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
