American Legion Post 128 invites the community to join them in honoring Rye’s veterans, those currently in service, students in military academies who are preparing for service, and those who gave their lives. The annual event will be held on the Village Green (or inside City Hall), May 26 at 10:30 a.m. This year, it is preceded by a parade, starting at 9:30 a.m. at Station Plaza.
Mayor Joe Sack will offer his greetings, after which Ryan McKay will recite the Gettysburg Address.
The principal speaker is Sheri Jordan, Executive Director of the Rye Historical Society. The Americanism Award will be given to Dan Kelly and Chris Maloney, who dedicated many months of their lives to Rye’s World War II Project, giving faces to the names on our Rolls of Honor.
The winners of the John M. Kingery Memorial Day Essay Contest — Kana White, first prize, and runner-ups Madeleine Albanese and John O’Keefe will receive certificates of appreciation, in addition to small scholarships.
New Eagle Scouts Sean Byrne, Sean Howard, Tim Hardis, Peter MacKenzie, and Harrison Steins will be recognized.
Veteran John Carolin will read the Roll of Honor.
