“Each child was asked to create an artistic representation of their research on an important American figure, building, or national landmark,” explained Ms. Castaldi.

Abraham Lincoln and the Statue of Liberty, played by Nicholas Roach and Francesca Murdoch, welcomed parents and guests. Nicholas sported a Sharpie-made black beard that he hopes will fade by the time he enters college.

It was clear the students’ research dug deep. When asked for the most interesting fact she discovered, fifth grader Julia Koester, who researched and depicted Betsy Ross, remarked, “She had three husbands and they all died before her!”
