Using old-fashioned block and tackle, plus their own strength, volunteers raised the cedar arbor at the Bird Homestead last weekend.

Andy Weingartner, Jack, Aidan, Shepherd, and Aaron Griffiths, pictured left to right, pulled hard to raise the partially collapsed grape arbor at the historic Bird Homestead. Weingartner, who worked on a schooner in his youth, led the effort.

The rustic cedar arbor at the Bird Homestead now stands upright after many years of leaning sharply.
