The Scouting Report

Someone’s in the Kitchen, and it’s Not Mom

Serving up Dinner at Noon at the Carver Center on a recent Saturday were the Cub Scouts of Rye Pack 2, Den 1. With nearly 50 attendees, the scouts were super busy, from the setting of tables to the serving of drinks and a warm meal straight on through to the final clean up.

For many of the boys it was the first time doing what moms — and some dads — do every day. To their credit, the boys were eager and cheerful helpers, bustling back to the kitchen time and again to assist with whatever needed to be done.

As the final den meeting before this group graduates to the rank of Boy Scout, it was a fitting opportunity to embrace the Boy Scout slogan “Do a Good Turn Daily”.

Den leader Elaine Tibbals said she wanted “to leave the boys with a sense of community service.”

Even after the meal cleanup, the members of Den 1 had high praise for their leader: “Words cannot begin to describe our appreciation for Mrs. Tibbals’ creative and diligent efforts the past five years.”
