A Fine Occasion for Assemblyman Otis

It was standing-room-only at the swearing-in ceremony for our new State Assemblyman, Steve Otis, in the Rye City Council Room January 12. Dozens of residents, along with elected officials from across Westchester, came out to wish Rye’s former Mayor a wonderful start in his new position.

Among the speakers at the occasion were Congressman Eliot Engels, State Senator George Latimer, former State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, and Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett. Many of them spoke on the importance of cooperation between elected officials across various levels of government, how Assemblyman Otis’ 28 years of experience with Senator Oppenheimer positions him well as he enters the Assembly, and his non-partisan approach as Mayor of Rye.

Weddings

Peters — Mahoney

Margaret Pinkney Peters and Derek Edward Mahoney were married August 25 at the flagpole of American Yacht Club in Rye. The Rev. Susan C. Harriss, an Episcopal priest, officiated.

The bride’s sister, Jill Peters MacVicar, served as the Matron of Honor and the groom’s father, Daniel Patrick Mahoney, served as the Best Man.

The bridge and groom grew up together sailing at American Yacht Club, and both served as Commodores of the Junior American Yacht Club.

Mrs. Mahoney, 28, who is known as Molly, is a senior vice president at Heller Advisory, a New York private placement firm. Her responsibilities include marketing and raising assets for alternative investment managers. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania.

She is a daughter of Margaret P. and Jonathan W. Peters, who both live and work in Rye. Her father is a managing director and partner at Arque Advisors, a hedge fund, where he oversees marketing. Her mother is a garden designer with her own firm, Peggy Pierce Peters Garden Design.

Mr. Mahoney, 30, is an associate in the private banking unit at JPMorgan Chase in New York. He graduated from Middlebury College and received an M.B.A. from Cornell University.

He is a son of Susan B. and Daniel P. Mahoney of Greenwich. The groom’s father retired as a senior partner in Wagner Stott, a securities specialist firm in New York that is now part of Barclays bank.

Following the wedding, the couple honeymooned on the Amalfi Coast and in Rome before returning to their apartment in Manhattan.

Join the Carly Parade

A parade for Carly Rose Sonenclar will be held Sunday, January 27 from 2:30-4 p.m. on Mamaroneck Avenue.

First, Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum declared Carly Rose Sonenclar Day when she performed (and was runner-up) in the “X-Factor” finale last month.

Now, he is closing Mamaroneck Avenue for a community celebration for the Rye Neck eighth grader, who won the hearts of America with her astounding voice.

“I’m so happy to have the chance to thank my fans, neighbors, and Carly’s angels in person,” said the 13-year-old superstar.

Rye Neck School District participants, bands, bagpipers, fire engines, Carly’s Angels, and plenty of fans will be on hand. All are welcome!
