“Digit” Goes to Disney — and MIT

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer Rye Record contributor. Annabel Monaghan, Rye mother of three, columnist extraordinaire, and author of the best-selling young adult novel, “A Girl Named Digit,” has signed a deal with Disney TV.

Her literary agent brought the book to a film agent, who took the project to Hollywood producer John Carls (“Rango,” “Where the Wild Things Are”), who took the property to Disney, which plans to turn the book into a Disney Channel movie.

Now, when Monaghan speaks before “Digit” fans at schools and libraries, their first question is: “Who are you going to cast in the role of Digit?”

If it was up to her, Monaghan said she’d cast Jennifer Lawrence, “even though she’s a little old to be playing a 17-year-old.”

In addition to closing her first Hollywood deal, Monaghan informed us that “Digit” is coming out in paperback this month.

“Digit” fans — and they’re not just teens and preteens — will be excited to know that Monaghan’s second book, “Double Digit,” will be published January 7, 2014.

Was she willing to share any details on the sequel?

“I will tell you that Digit, soon after arriving as a freshman at MIT, falls in with a group of hackers … and gets into more trouble than she could ever have imagined,” said Monaghan.

The early “reviews” — from family members — have been out of this world, but Monaghan’s 14-year-old son did tell her that one of her favorite phrases was “so lame.”

Learning that “Double Digit” comes to a cliffhanging end, we naturally asked if Monaghan was working on a third book.

“Yes, but I haven’t written one word. It’s hard when you’re in a car from 3 to 9 every day!”

Weddings

Arcoleo — McLoughlin

Genevieve Arcoleo and Tom McLoughlin were married April 13 at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye. Father Joseph Lim officiated. A reception followed at Westchester Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Stephen and Joan Arcoleo, longtime residents of Rye. The groom is the son of Thomas and Pam McLoughlin of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.

The bride’s sister, Stephanie Lorraine, was the matron of honor. The best man was Matt Mendelsohn, a close friend of the groom’s.

The bride wore an ivory gown of beaded English netting. Among the Swarovski crystals scattered throughout the gown, were occasional blue crystals, reminiscent of the traditional “something blue.”

The bride is a graduate of Northeastern University and the groom is a graduate of Providence College. The newlyweds are both employed in advertising sales at Cablevision, where they first met.

After honeymooning in Hawaii, the couple returned to their home in Long Island City. N.Y.

Vite — Burke

Amanda Jane Vite, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David F. Vite, of Woodstock, Illinois, was married to Christopher Ameen Burke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Burke of Rye, on March 9, at Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago. The celebration continued at the University Club of Chicago.

Mrs. Burke, 33, is a Senior Underwriter at WR Berkley, where she underwrites management liability insurance for large public and private corporations. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Finance and Business Economics. Her mother is a retired teacher and her father currently serves as the President and CEO of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association.

Mr. Burke, 32, is a Vice President at Barclays Bank. He is part of the company’s CMBS group, which originates, underwrites, and securitizes commercial mortgages. He graduated from Hobart College, where he studied Economics and History. His mother works with Toni Gallagher Interiors and his father is Chairman and CEO of Allison Investment Corp.

The couple honeymooned in Nevis and St. Lucia, before returning home to Manhattan.
